Izabella Demavlys is a New York based photographer and artist. With studies from RMIT in Australia and Parsons in NYC, she initially carved her niche in fashion photography.
However, a decade ago, she made a pivotal transition to portraiture and documentary work, focusing on the powerful narratives of women who have suffered acid attacks in Pakistan.
Her commitment to showcasing the strength of these women has not gone unnoticed. Izabella’s work has been featured in publications such as Vogue and Marie Claire, earning her accolades
like the inaugural Richard’s Family Prize 2024 from the Griffin Museum of Photography and recognition as the winner for the pro portrait section of the Julia Margaret Cameron Awards 2024.
Her belief that beauty transcends mere appearance is at the heart of her artistry. She invites us to reconsider our perceptions of beauty and empowerment. “I strongly believe that beauty is impossible
to define solely by appearance. To illustrate a deeper—or my definition of beauty—I photograph women whose empowered beauty radiates from their accomplishments, character, and personal struggles.”
In an era where superficiality often reigns supreme, Izabella Demavlys challenges us to look beyond traditional standards and embrace a more holistic understanding of what it means to be
beautiful—one that celebrates resilience, courage, and individuality.
Izabella Demavlys is based in NYC.
