• – Self Immolation in Nepal

Approximately one hundred women are admitted to BIR hospital in Kathmandu, Nepal, each year suffering from serious burns due to suicide attempts. Most of these women come from a lower socio-economical background and are in need of financial help for their treatments. Some of the women suffering from over fifty percent of burns do not survive. They use gasoline or kerosene oil to burn themselves; the latter is used for cooking. Many of these women suffer from depression due to domestic violence in their homes, whether it’s stemming from their spouses and/or from the families of their spouses. Till date, there is no approximation, as to how many women across Nepal try to commit suicide through self-immolation. For more information please visit BVS Nepal
