PAKISTAN: Music in Pakistan

I met two groups of musicians in Pakistan, one of them was made up of cousins Zeb and Haniya. Zeb sings, Haniya plays the guitar. Their debut album Chup! was released in 2008, produced by Mekaal Hasan. Originally from Peshawar, they sing in both Urdu and Pushto languages. website

Mekaal Hasan formed his band in 2001 together with Javed and Mohammed (Papu). They released their debut album Sampooran in 2004, blending traditional Eastern classical music with jazz and rock. This past fall their critically acclamied album Saptak has been topping the music charts in Pakistan. A European tour is scheduled for the spring of 2010. website
