AFGHANISTAN: Bamyan Hospital
Bamyan Provincial Hospital is an Afghan Government facility operated by the Aga Khan Health Services, an agency of the Aga Khan Development Network.
The hospital was established in 1979 as a maternal and child health clinic. It was gradually made operational as a district hospital by a series of international NGOs, - International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) and Leprosy Control (LEPCO).
From 1996-99 it was run by the Taleban authorities. When the Aga Khan Health Services (AKHS) took over the hospitals operations in 2004 it was a 35-bed facility including 15 beds in tents.
Today Bamyan Hospital has 74 beds for inpatients and also provides treatment for outpatients.
The hospital now provides primary medical care surgery, dentistry laboratory services, pediatric treatment for children, and obstetrics and gynecological services for women.
